What about emissions when bio-oil is used?

The emissions from bio-oil use are lower than fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas; because they contain no sulphur or chlorine, emissions are also cleaner. Soot emissions from biomass with low ash contents are also much lower.

Extensive incineration tests have been made in the field by the government using special mobile measuring stations which tested whether this was actually the case, and also to be able to determine numbers on which to base a quality assurance system. For these studies, certain emission increasing elements were deliberately added to the biomass in order to see what kind of effect this would have on air quality, and so determine what maximum acceptable values should be.
